What is Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE)?

Introduced in 2010, Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE), is a wireless transmission technique created by Nokia under an open standard based on Bluetooth® technologies.

The technology is supported by most operating systems:

Bluetooth® vs Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE)

Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) features very low energy consumption and is low-cost, robust and secure.

Compared to Bluetooth, BLE provides the same speed (1Mb/s) with 10 times less power consumption. The technique can therefore be integrated into new types of equipment, such as watches, medical monitoring devices, access control readers, sensors for athletes, etc., and into new Internet of Things applications.

Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) (narrower bandwidth and extremely low power consumption) and Bluetooth® (higher over the air data rate and greater range) are therefore complementary technologies.
